About us.
Since 1949, the Redwood Guild of Fiber Arts has been a hub of community and learning in the North Bay Area. The Textile Arts Collective is keeping that tradition alive as an inclusive gathering space for the next generation of fiber enthusiasts. We are parents, students, working professionals, artists, and hobbyists.
It is our mission to make fiber arts accessible to all, through exhibitions, community outreach, and peer support.
Laura Leipzig began the Textile Arts Collective in 2023 because she wanted to connect with more like minded weavers to learn from. In 2020 she began learning to weave after reassembling an unusual old floor loom that had been given. In need of guidance, she took a few classes and joining the Redwood Guild of Fiber Arts where she promptly got involved. By 2022, Laura was working full-time again, and no longer had availability to attend the Guild’s mid-day meetings and workshops. Even finding classes that fit with a 9-5 work schedule was tough! So, she decided to form her own group that would prioritize the needs and schedules of busy, working people.
The Textile Arts Collective is a subgroup (called a Study Group) of the Redwood Guild of Fiber Arts. RGFA is a 501c3 nonprofit.
